Press Release on 18th February 2022Earth Day Network India Awards the Jammu Municipal Corporation
Earth Day Network India is inspired by the global NGO EARTHDAY.ORG™ that grew out of the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, and today engages with over 50,000 organizations in some 190 countries to take the environmental movement forward.
We aim to help Restore our Earth with initiatives that focus on ways to regrow green cover, rejuvenate aquifers, restore soil, refresh air, reduce and manage waste, encourage a switch to clean and green energies, and build environmental stewardship among youth.
Earth Day Network India is pleased to confer upon the Jammu Municipal Corporation the Earth Day Network Star Municipal Leadership Award. This recognizes Jammu Municipal Corporation’s establishing a Material Recovery Facility for the processing and disposal of single-use plastics. Mr. Prabhjot Sodhi from Centre for Environment Education felicitated the award to Sh. Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor Jammu. In the meeting the Deputy Mayor advocate Purnima Sharma, Commissioner, JMC Ms. Avny Lavasa, Secretary JMC Sh Atul Kumar, Chairman Standing Committee Health & Sanitation Mr. Rajkumar, Chairman Standing Committee SBM Mr. Hardeep Mankotia, Chairman Standing Committee Social Justice Mr. Ajay Gupta, Deputy Vice President HDFC Bank Mr. Abhishek and Mr. Sanjeev Arora RUDA with other officials of JMC and CEE were presented in the event.
Mr. Gupta spoke on the partnership with Earth Day network, CEE, HDFC Bank, UNDP and RUDA; added that how Mr Sodhi and team have joined hands with JMC to shine in SBM and Sanitation in increasing their ranking of the city. He added that Jammu as a city have moved from 373 to 169 in 2 years. And added that with everybody support soon we will become in the First 10 soon. He also spoke about the various initiatives of JMC to make Jammu a smart city, he further appreciated the ownership and responsibilities of citizens in carrying out drives for better segregation and collection of plastics and dry waste. He appreciated that CEE with HDFC bank is now starting many awareness drives and activities with JMC in Jammu.
Mr Sodhi and Ms Karuna Singh added the remarkable work that the Jammu Municipal Corporation has done in last one year. They join an exclusive group of 45 Municipal Bodies pan-India that have displayed remarkable leadership in the environmental work they do. Mr Sodhi thanked the Commissioner, Mayor, Deputy Mayor, And all the Standing Committee members. Their efforts are a true reflection of the global Earth Day 2022 theme 'Invest in Our Planet' which calls upon everyone –all businesses, governments, and citizens – to accelerate solutions to combat climate change.”
