Jammu Municipal Corporation conducts a surprise drives in different areas of Jammu City on the eve of Maha Shivratri.

On the directions of Commissioner, JMC, Ms. Avny Lavasa, Municipal Veterinary Officer, Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma and Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Dr. Parvesh Kumar along with team of Doctors deputed by Sheep Husbandry Department conducted surprise joint drives on the eve of Maha Shivratri in different areas of Jammu City to ensure the sale of wholesome and good quality meat and meat byproducts to the consumers. The surprise drive started from Narwal, Gandhi Nagar, Gangyal, Satwari, Talab Tillo, Bohri, Muthi, Bantalab, Paloura, Janipur, Amphalla, CPO chowk, etc. During the drive, various meat shops, chicken shops & fish mongers were inspected and about 25 Kg of substandard meat was seized and later on disposed of properly along with a fine to the tune of Rs. 42,000/- was also imposed to the meat sellers for selling unstamped & substandard meat. 20 Food business operators were also booked under FSSAI Act 2006 Notices have been served to various meat shops owners to install the black/red colour glasses in their shops and do not hang the meat outside their shops. Meat & chicken shop owners were instructed to keep separate bins with black polythene to collect the daily waste generated on account of refused/inedible meat & chicken parts for further proper disposal through JMC vehicles. Municipal Veterinary Officer and Asstt. Commissioner, Food Safety appealed to all the shopkeepers dealing with meat/chicken products to maintain hygienic environment in and around their shops and adhere with the various provisions of Food Safety Act, 2006 and other directions & guidelines issued by the JMC from time to time so that good quality of meat shall reach to the consumers.
