Awareness cum Workshop on Environmental Management of Dairies/ Gaushalas and Maintaining norms of FSS Act

An Awareness cum Workshop on Environmental Management of Dairies/ Gaushalas and Maintaining norms of FSS Act was organized today on 29th March 2022 by Jammu Municipal Corporation in collaboration with Food Safety Department, Jammu. Hon’ble Mayor, JMC Sh. Chander Mohan Gupta was the Chief guest in the program and Hon’ble Chairman Health & Sanitation Sh. Raj Kumar Tarkhan, Hon’ble Chairman Swacch Bharat Standing Committee Sh. Hardeep Singh Mankotia, Hon’ble Chairman Social Justice Sh. Ajay Gupta and Hon’ble Councillor Ward No. 56 and Ex. Chairman Sh. Baldev Singh Billawaria were present as special guests. Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma MVO, JMC, Dr. Parvesh Kumar, Asstt. Commissioner, Food Safety, Jammu, Sh. Arshad Malik, Divisional Officer PCC Jammu, Sh. Raj Kumar, FSO, Sh. Neeraj Upadhaya, Team Leader SWM also participated and delivered lectures in the program. The workshop started with the inspection of various stalls displayed by the NGOs viz. Jagriti Mahila Udhyog Kendra & Samast Eco alternatives by Hon’ble Mayor & other Dignitaries regarding traditional & scientific management of Dairy Waste like making of Vermi Compost, Dias, Agarbattis & Cow Dung wood etc. MVO, JMC Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma appraised during the program that Jammu Municipal Corporation has taken various initiatives regarding regulation of Dairies & Gaushalas operating within JMC limits in accordance with guidelines of Central Pollution Control Board regarding Environmental Management of Dairies & Gaushalas & FSS norms. Further, he informed that 50 no. of Dairy Units those fulfill the said criteria as per the guidelines of CPCB and FSS norms such as Bio Gas Plants, Vermi Compost Units or Adopted other techniques for scientific disposal of Dairy waste have been registered by the JMC in the first instance and process is going on to register/regulate all the Dairy units/ Gaushalas operating within JMC limits. Team Leader SWM, Neeraj Upadhaya presented ppt presentation on Dairy Waste Management and Sh. Arshad Malik, Div. Officer PCC Jammu emphasized the importance of adoption of Central Pollution Control Board guidelines issued in terms of directions of Hon’ble NGT so that every bit of Dairy waste generated is properly recycled & utilized as manure and energy. Asst. Commissioner, Food Safety Jammu Dr. Parvesh Kumar informed about the norms of FSS Act 2006 to maintain the Gaushalas/ Dairies especially to get the registration/ License, maintenance of infrastructure, personal hygiene and sanitary conditions of the Gaushalas. He also provided the medical benefits of cow’s milk, cow’s urine, cow’s dung and panchgava etc. Hon’ble Chairmans of the respective committees of JMC provided the objectives of Sanitation, Swacch Bharat initatives and motivated the dairy farmers to maintain their dairy units / gaushalas as per the set rules and regulations. Hon’ble Mayor, Sh. Chander Mohan Gupta in his address highlighted the importance of such programs and events which will generate mass awareness for the stake holders to adopt and follow the guidelines issued by the regulatory agencies and registration of dairy units / gaushalas in terms of bylaws of Jammu Municipal Corporation. He also complemented the efforts of MVO,JMC and Asst. Commissioner Food Saftey and collaborated efforts of distinguished departments for organizing such type of events & the stake holders for their massive participations as it will give a message for others to follow and make Jammu city neat, clean & green. The events concluded with distribution of Provisional Diary Registration Certificate by the Hon’ble Mayor and other dignitaries to 50 no. of Dairy Farmers who have completed all the formalities in terms of CPCB guidelines, and in accordance with norms of FSS & Municipal Act.
