Jammu Municipal Corporation conduct surprise drives in different areas of Jammu City to ensure the sale of wholesome and good quality meat and meat byproducts to the consumers.

On the directions of Commissioner, JMC, Sh. Rahul Yadav (IAS), Municipal Veterinary Officer, Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma along with Field staff conducted surprise drives in different areas of Jammu City to ensure the sale of wholesome and good quality meat and meat byproducts to the consumers. The surprise drives were conducted in the area of Narwal, Gangyal, Satwari, Talab Tillo, Bohri, Muthi, Bantalab, Paloura, Janipur, Amphalla, CPO Chowk. During the drive, various meat shops, chicken shops & fish mongers were inspected and about 20 Kg of substandard meat was seized and later on disposed of properly alongwith a fine to the tune of Rs. 22,000/- was also imposed on the meat sellers for selling unstamped & substandard meat. Municipal Veterinary Officer, JMC appealed all the shopkeepers dealing with meat/chicken products to maintain hygienic environment in and around their shops and strictly adhere to the various provisions of Food Safety Act, 2006 and other directions & guidelines issued by the JMC from time to time so that good quality of meat should reach to the consumers. Further, instructions were issued to Meat/ chicken shop owners to install black glasses in their shops and do not hang meat openly. They were also advised to keep separate bins for the collection of daily waste generated on account of refused/ inedible meat & chicken parts for proper disposal through JMC vehicles.
