Anti encroachment drive by Jammu municipal corporation

On the instructions of Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation Mr. M. Raju (IAS), the Jammu Municipal Corporation continuing its drive against illegal rehries/pharies/hoardings and encroachers causing traffic congestion and obstructing free movement of pedestrians on footpaths. The drive was conducted under the supervision of Joint Commissioner (A), JMC Sh. R.S. Jamwal (KAS) and Assistant Commissioner (Rev.) JMC Mrs. Vinakshi Koul (KAS). During the drive Chief Enforcement Officer, Sh. Rajesh Gupta, Enforcement Officer, Sh. Kamini Kesar, Revenue Officers, Sh. Parmod Kumar, Sh. Ashwani Sudan, Sh. Parveen Gupta and Sh. Sunil Gupta of JMC, Police force of the concerned Police Stations & other Enforcement staff of JMC also accompanied the drive.

The drive was conducted in the areas viz Indira Chowk, Shalamar Road, B.C. Road, Gumat, Gurdwara Sunder Singh Road, Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Jewel and Narwal area etc.

During the drive the team of Jammu Municipal Corporation removed encroachments and cleared the footpaths and pavements. The team seized about 30 illegal rehries plying without licence from these areas and seized 5 trucks of material displayed by the shopkeepers in front of their shops and footpaths causing traffic congestion and free flow of pedestrians. The team also removed illegal hoardings from these areas.

The Jammu Municipal Corporation also appeals to the shopkeepers to keep their goods within their establishments to avoid penal action against them and vendors to ply their rehries only in the rehri zone and specified areas by Jammu Municipal Corporation.

The general public and civil society welcomed the drive conducted by Jammu Municipal Corporation and appeal to the JMC that such type of drives should be conducted at regular intervals.
