Press Release on 25th February 2020JMC LAUNCHED DESILTING DRIVE FOR CLEARING OF NALLAH’S & DEEP DRAINS.
Today on 25.02.2020 Sh. Baldev Singh Baloria Chairman, (Health & Sanitation Committee) launched extensive desilting drives in the presence of former Mayor Sh. Manmohan Choudhary the preparation for this drive were started almost a week ago when Commissioner, JMC Ms. Avny Lavasa, IAS conducted tour of all the storm water drainage system and given directions to Chief Transport Officer, JMC for putting up a comprehensive proposal for cleaning of all these seasonal nallah’s and deep drains falling in 75 wards of JMC. The drive will continue for 6 months w.e.f Feb. to mid Sep. 2020 so that the people living in low lying areas of Jammu region shall not face any trouble during forthcoming mansoon season. Additional men & machinery will be engaged on outsouce basis.
There are approximately 191 nallah’s and 143 deep drains falling in JMC limits and it has been a challenge for JMC authorities to get these desilted well before onset of monsoon season so that there shall be no water logging and over flow due to flash flood during heavy rainfall in the ensuing monsoon season which otherwise can cause serious damage to the life and property of local residents in low lying and flood prone areas of Jammu region. It includes Bhagwati Nagar, Talab Tillo, Kabir Colony, Durga Nagar, Nai Basti, Kunj Vihar lane sec. 04, Nanak Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Trikuta Nagar.
Among others, Sh. Neeraj Puri, Councillor of w.no 54 and other prominent citizen were also present on the ocession. The locals of the area in and around landoi choi nallah, Nanak Nagar also thanked JMC and appreciated the initiative taken by JMC for desilting the barasti nallah at the appropriate time.
The Chairman, Health & Sanitation Committee on behalf of JMC appealed the general public at large to cooperate with JMC and not to encroach and pollute seasonal nallahs as it will ultimately lead to blockage resulting in flash flood and over flow during heavy downpour causing lot of damage to the local residents.
