SECURING SKC’s WELFARE THROUGH INSURANCE

The Jammu Municipal Corporation is securing the interests of its Work force (SKCs) by bringing them under the purview of the Welfare legislations launched by the Government. Intending to cover every worker under the insurance scheme, the Jammu Municipal Corporation is ensuring that in the times of distress and medical exigency, the Workers and their families are not deprived of the benefits. In this behalf, today Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Mr. Chander Mohan Gupta and Deputy Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Ms. Purinma Sharma apprised about the different insurance schemes for SKCs in presence of Ms. Avny Lavasa (IAS), Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation

The Work force in Jammu Municipal Corporation for the purpose of their coverage under the ambit of the welfare legislations is broadly categorized into three sections:-

1) Permanent / Substantive employees of the Municipal Corporation

2) Casual SKCs (including Daily Wagers) and

3) SKCs through outsourcing.

The coverage /intended coverage of the SKCs under the legislations including Insurance is as under:

The Permanent Safaikaramcharies are covered under the General Provident Fund Rules (those working prior of January, 2010) and State Life Insurance Scheme as per J&K Medical (Attendance-cum-Allowance) Rules, 1990 and also covered under Group Personal Accident Insurance with an annual risk cover of Rs 10 lakh.

The casual Safaikaramcharies are to be covered under Employee State Insurance (ESIC) Act and under Provident Fund with matching share to be provided by the JMC and also borne by the employee, as per rules/ scheme.

The SKCs engaged from empanelled NGOs are to be covered under Employee State Insurance (ESIC) Act.

This is the first time ever that all categories of SKCs are being provided cover. The SKCs are the frontline workers of the JMC and their welfare is central to the progress of the Corporation. JMC strives to work for their welfare measures and through the insurance cover, has also met a long pending demand of the workers.
