Press Release on 3rd July 2021JMC conducted a drive in different areas of Jammu City to ensure the sale of wholesome and good quality meat and meat by products to the consumers.
On the directions of Commissioner, JMC, Ms. Avny Lavasa (IAS) Ms. Navneet Mann (IAS) Probationer alongwith Municipal Veterinary Officer, Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma conducted a surprise drive in different areas of Jammu City viz. CPO Chowk, Sidhra, New Plot, Ambphalla, Janipur and B.C. Road etc. to ensure the sale of wholesome and good quality meat and meat by products to the consumers.
During the drive, various meat shops, chicken shops & fish mongers were inspected and about 40 Kg of substandard meat was seized and later on disposed of properly along with a fine to the tune of Rs. 16000/- was also imposed on the meat sellers for selling unstamped & substandard meat.
Instructions were issued to various meat/chicken shops owners to install the black/red colour glasses in their shops and do not hang the meat outside their shops. Meat & chicken shop owners were also instructed to keep separate bins with black polythene to collect the daily waste generated on account of refused/inedible meat & chicken parts for further proper disposal through JMC vehicles.
Municipal Veterinary Officer has appealed to all the shopkeepers dealing with meat/chicken products to maintain hygienic environment in and around their shops and adhere with the directions & guidelines issued by the JMC from time to time so that good quality of meat shall reach to the consumers. He said that such surprise drives will be conducted on regular basis and strict action which may include sealing of shops shall be initiated against the defaulters.
