The Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Dr. Devansh Yadav (IAS) conducted an extensive tour of several wards in Jammu South today, focusing on health and sanitation activities being carried out by JMC and addressing complaints lodged on the JMC online portal.
During the tour, the Commissioner visited various areas, including Transport Nagar (Ward No. 49), Chhani Himmat (Ward No. 50), and Trikuta Nagar (Wards No. 53 & 54).
The tour also served as a platform for local residents to voice their concerns and suggestions regarding community development, thereby strengthening the relationship between JMC and the citizens. The Commissioner reaffirmed his commitment for improving the region's infrastructure and vowed to implement the feedback received during the visit.
Emphasizing the critical role of JMC in serving the citizens, the Commissioner stated that it is the corporation's mandate to ensure all necessary facilities are provided to the public in a better way.
Appealing to the public to segregate waste at their respective households and utilize the dedicated vehicles provided by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for waste disposal, the Commissioner also urged them to refrain from dumping waste materials, including polythene, in the lanes to prevent blockages and choking of drains and ensure the free flow of traffic.
At Transport Nagar, the Commissioner inspected a nallah where the protective wall had been eroded. In response, he ordered the installation of CCTV cameras to monitor and prevent the illegal dumping of vehicles, construction materials, and waste. These measures will allow for the identification of offenders through their license plates and the imposition of fines.
During an inspection at Ward No. 49, Chhani Rama, behind AM Hyundai, the Commissioner called for the demarcation of land to identify encroachments and instructed the relevant authorities to take necessary remedial measures to prevent overflow.
In Chhani Himmat, Ward No. 50, the Commissioner directed the cleaning of lanes and the removal of debris from drains to ensure public convenience. Additionally, he instructed the issuance of notices and the removal of unauthorized enclosures.
In Ward No. 54, the Commissioner ordered the temporary restoration of the underpass and the protection wall of the nallah, prioritizing public safety. He also directed prompt action to address the issue of water overflow caused by blocked hume pipes on the main road, ensuring a swift resolution to prevent further disruptions.
A delegation from the Mohalla Welfare Society, Trikuta Nagar, met with the Commissioner to raise their grievances. In response, the Commissioner issued directives for the temporary restoration of the underpass and the protection wall of the nallah at Ward No. 54, emphasizing the importance of public convenience and safety. He also instructed the relevant authorities to immediately address the water overflow issue, ensuring quick resolution to avoid further inconvenience to the public.
The Commissioner was accompanied by Joint Commissioner, Health and Sanitation Abdul Sattar, Deputy Commissioner (South), Sh. Lal Chand, Joint Commissioner (W), Sh. Firdous Ahmed Qazi, Health Officer, Dr. Vinod Sharma, Executive Engineers of various JMC wings, and other senior officers during the tour.
